Project: Big Pit National Mining Museum of Wales, Blaenafon
Location: Blaenafon, Wales
Beacon Display were commissioned to fit out the former colliery buildings, including the pithead baths, the winding engine house and the blacksmith's workshop. All have been restored and cleverly animated by the sound of past miners at work. Big Pit; The National Mining Museum of Wales were awarded the 2005 Prestigious Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year having beaten off stiff competition to win the £100,000 arts prize.
